Job Overview

Austrade is looking for a Network Engineer to join the team responsible for the support and maintenance of its global IT network. The network supports staff across approximately 60 locations in over 50 countries, and is required to be available 24x7. With a cloud-first approach in place, this role provides an opportunity to contribute to reducing the on-premise footprint while supporting ongoing operational and project work.

This role involves both operational maintenance—responding to incidents and service requests—and project work to implement new digital services and enhance network capabilities. It requires flexibility in working weekends, outside of normal business hours, and providing on-call support.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day Level 2 and 3 support and administration for Austrade's global network.
  • Respond to system faults, perform configuration updates, monitor system health, and maintain disaster recovery manuals.
  • Install, configure, and maintain Cisco and Fortinet hardware and software platforms to support Data Centre Networking, SDWAN, VPN Remote Access, and WiFi.
  • Identify and recommend technical improvements within and beyond formal projects.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new hardware, software, and processes to enhance Austrade’s corporate communication networks.
  • Manage system upgrades while following ISM guidelines to maintain a Maturity Level 2 security posture.
  • Ensure network documentation and standard operating procedures are up to date.
  • Participate in an on-call roster to respond to urgent issues after hours and work weekends as needed.
  • Collaborate with Austrade’s Information Technology Service team to support service delivery and uphold diversity, ethical practices, and occupational health and safety standards.

Eligibility

  • Australian citizenship is required.
  • Must hold, or have the ability to obtain and maintain, a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.
